Hi, I was wondering what language the song Tehillah is in. It sounds Native American but I have no idea what tribe. This is a truly beautiful song and I hope you can tell me the language. Thank you, Susan Martin
I’m so glad you’ve been blessed by this song, Susan. It’s been one of my most popular. When I wrote and sang “Tehillah” for the first time, it was a spontaneous song the Lord was giving me as I was on my way to perform a concert at a church in San Antonio, Texas. It is interesting that the lyrics, and the music, have a Native American sound and feel because I feel it is a song of intercession and/or worship. The word tehillah comes from the Hebrew meaning “praise, song or hymn of praise” and is used in Psalm 40:3 where it says, “And He has put a new song in my mouth, even praise (tehillah) unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the Lord.”
You write the words phonetically but what are the words and what language or is it a prayer language? I would love to learn this but would like to know the language. Thank you
It is a prayer language (tongue) that the Holy Spirit gave me. In 1 Corinthians 12:8-10 Paul teaches us about the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Speaking different kinds of tongues and the interpretation of tongues are two of the nine gifts of the Spirit. Years ago when I prayed for the Lord to baptize me in His Spirit, about two weeks later I began singing in tongues. And years after that when I began writing and performing my own music it so many times included an expression in tongues.
